Why Jumping Higher Matters

Athletes are always wanting to get a higher vertical leap. If you are an athlete yourself, you are looking for that edge against your competition. Let’s take a look at how a higher vertical leap and more explosive legs in general can help you in some of the most popular sports around the globe.

- Football

Skill position football players have to move their bodies in all kinds of directions to avoid tackles. If you are on defense, you also need to be able to be agile enough to react. A lot of times this comes down to being explosive enough to go up for a ball in the air.

- Basketball

Perhaps no sport uses jumping more than basketball. Everyone wants to jump higher to dunk, but there are many other reasons you need a high vertical leap as well. Anything from defense to a basic jump shot needs you to get off the ground if you want to be successful against other players.

- Baseball

Although jumping doesn’t come into play too much, the same muscles you use to jump come into play a ton in baseball. Many people think you need a strong arm to throw hard. The fact is, your legs do most of the work. If you have strong, muscular legs to jump and make quick movements, you will be able to make more athletic plays and throw more consistently.

- Hockey

When you are on skates you don’t jump, right? That is mostly true, but again you will see more of a difference in your explosiveness with your legs. Since jumping involves working on your fast twitch muscles, you will see an increase in quickness as well as jumping without skates on.

Even when you don’t actually jump, having the muscles to do so can directly effect how you play some of the most popular sports in the world.
